Abandoned for 40 years, the old Gulf Oil pump station was sitting in the middle of a pasture with trees growing through the windows.
Before we began designing the new station, we visited new fire stations within 150 miles. We took pictures, made notes, and tried to incorporate the best ideas.
Response time drives everything in the design of a fire station. One crucial requirement: everything must be in close proximity to the fire trucks. All the main rooms open into the truck bay, including the living room and the hall outside the bedrooms.
Restoration required completely gutting the existing building. The former pump station was converted into space for offices, sleeping quarters, day room, and weight room.
